McCain's Economic Remarks in Denver
It's great to be back in Colorado. We need to win Colorado on November 4th, and with your help -- we're going to win Colorado, and bring real change to Washington.

It's been a long campaign and we've heard a lot of words, and after months of campaign trail eloquence, we've finally learned what Senator Obama's economic goal is. As he told Joe the plumber back in Ohio, he wants to quote "spread the wealth around." Just this morning, he said it again. He believes in redistributing wealth, not in policies that grow our economy and create jobs. Senator Obama is more interested in controlling wealth than in creating it, in redistributing money instead of spreading opportunity. I am going to create wealth for all Americans, by creating opportunity for all Americans.

Palin's Speech on Children with Special Needs
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Thank you all very much. I appreciate the hospitality of the people of Pittsburgh, and I'm grateful to all the groups who have joined us here today. The Woodlands Foundation, the Down Syndrome Center at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, Autism-link, the Children's Institute of Pittsburgh: Thank you for coming today. And, above all, thank you for the great work you do for the light and love you bring into so many lives.

John McCain and I have talked about the missions he'd like me to focus on should I become vice president, and our nation's energy independence and government reform are among them. But there is another mission that's especially close to my heart, and that is to help families of children with special needs. And today, we'll talk about three policy proposals that are going to help us fulfill our country's commitment to these children: more choices for parents, fully funding IDEA, and efforts to reform and refocus.

Economic Crisis Presents Opportunity, Pitfalls for Dems
What's the point of being named captain of the Titanic if the ship is only moments away from sinking? The economy the next president inherits may not be that bad, but as Democrats stand on the cusp of winning control of Congress and, likely, the presidency, it may seem like the party is taking complete control of Washington at exactly the wrong time. Then again, the mood for government spending may give Democrats the unique ability to do more than simply rearrange deck chairs on a doomed ship.

As Democrats measure the White House drapes, the party will face precious little time to turn the flailing economy around. Key economic indicators show no signs of turning around within the next two years according to some experts, and the party will have no scapegoat heading into the 2010 midterm elections, making Democrats' first months in control all the more critical. Now, all eyes are turning to a second stimulus package Democrats are considering raising in a post-election special session.

McCain for President
WASHINGTON -- Contrarian that I am, I'm voting for John McCain. I'm not talking about bucking the polls or the media consensus that it's over before it's over. I'm talking about bucking the rush of wet-fingered conservatives leaping to Barack Obama before they're left out in the cold without a single state dinner for the next four years.

I stand athwart the rush of conservative ship-jumpers of every stripe -- neo (Ken Adelman), moderate (Colin Powell), genetic/ironic (Christopher Buckley) and socialist/atheist (Christopher Hitchens) -- yelling "Stop!" I shall have no part of this motley crew. I will go down with the McCain ship. I'd rather lose an election than lose my bearings.

Barack Obama, False Moderate
The only two Democrats who have won in the past 10 presidential elections were moderates from the South.

This datum made the nomination of Barack Obama -- a liberal from the South Side, not the South -- seem an unnecessary gamble for Democrats. At least before it became evident how convincing an imitation Obama could do of his moderate Democratic forebears.

Obama's campaign has some of the trappings of Bill Clinton's winning 1992 and 1996 campaigns. Obama is like Clinton in 1992 in that he's running against a deeply unpopular incumbent president (although George W. Bush isn't on the ballot) and brandishing a middle-class tax cut. He's like Clinton in 1996 in that he's burying an older opponent in an avalanche of paid advertising, while branding himself a centrist.
